Marty Hardin
"Refrigerants: AIM Act"
The American Innovation and Manufacturing (AIM) Act is a federal law mandating the phasedown of high-global-warming-potential (GWP) hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), which are widely used in HVAC and refrigeration systems. The law sets strict deadlines for the manufacture, import, and installation of equipment using high-GWP refrigerants, with the goal of reducing HFC production and consumption by 85% by 2036. The EPA enforces these requirements and provides sector-specific guidance. This discussion will help clear up confusion about the requirements of the Act effective in 2026 and the implications for manufacturers, contractors, and commercial building owners immediately and for the long term.
Marty Hardin has nearly 30 years experience in the HVAC industry and currently serves as the Area Manager for the Florida region for Carrier Corporation (Applied Division). Mr. Hardin graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1996 and an MBA in 2021. The division Marty manages is responsible for applied equipment sales to owners, mechanical contractors and design professionals. Before joining Carrier, Marty worked with another major OEM for almost 20 years where he worked with a corporate team to help oversee and guide the CFC transition period, so the current refrigerant changes are the 3rd one he’s been involved with over his career. Marty lives in the Orlando, FL area and is involved with ASHRAE and Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida.

Don't Waste Money on Roof Insulation
Alan Craigo, PE, BECxP, CxA+BE is a Senior Project Manager at Gale Associates, Inc. specializing in building enclosures. He has over 28 years of project management experience in the evaluation, field testing, design, construction, and commissioning of building enclosure and roofing systems and components.
Roof insulation represents a significant portion of any roof replacement budget—often more than 15% of total project costs. Yet, many institutions aren’t getting the full performance and energy efficiency that insulation is designed to deliver.
This session will show how to make the most of your investment by understanding code requirements, common oversights, and strategies for improving thermal performance. Learn how issues such as unsealed edges, uninsulated parapets, and poorly detailed transitions can reduce the effectiveness of even code-compliant insulation.
Through real-world case studies and practical examples, attendees will discover how evaluating adjacent assemblies and refining roof design details can enhance energy efficiency, extend roof system service life, and optimize long-term building performance

How do we use our data with AI to help prioritize and justify our maintenance, preventive, and capital plans?
We know the benefit of doing preventive maintenance and how it extends the life of our equipment and reduces breakdowns. Our corrective, preventive and capital planning data has traditionally not been connected to help us justify our desired outcomes. See how we can use modern tools and AI to achieve our desired outcomes!
Some of our learning outcomes will be:
Explore how to automate your chargeback process
See how AI can be used to track the cost of our work
How to become more comfortable with AI. Use standard AI chats to update your data.
How do I visualize my data and keep it up-to-date?

Hunter Gellman
From Crisis to Capital Strategy: Using Infrastructure Failure to Frame a Resilient Campus Future
Emergencies are a constant reality in facilities management—but rarely do they arrive alone. In August 2025, Florida Atlantic University faced a convergence of critical infrastructure failures during student move-in. A central energy plant serving 40% of campus housing lost half its capacity, while multiple lift stations experienced near-simultaneous pump failures, creating significant operational and student-impact challenges.
This session presents a candid case study of how FAU Housing Facilities responded in real time, stabilized essential services, and translated crisis-driven lessons into a long-term capital resiliency strategy. Attendees will learn how these events exposed system vulnerabilities, reshaped prioritization of redundancy and risk mitigation, and influenced capital planning decisions for years to come. The presentation will highlight practical frameworks for evaluating infrastructure resilience, making high-stakes decisions under pressure, and aligning emergency response with future-focused planning—offering actionable insights for institutions preparing for the next “normal.”
Hunter Gellman is a seasoned facilities professional with over a decade of experience. Hunter is currently the Associate Director of Facilities at Florida Atlantic University. His scope of control includes critical infrastructure such as central energy plants, lift stations, locksmiths, and access control. He executes special projects and capital infrastructure expansion and renewal. He is currently in the process of completing $10,000,000 of infrastructure upgrades over the next 36 months. He holds a master's of educational leadership from Montclair State University and an MBA from Stevens Institute of Technology. Hunter also holds a PMP (Project Management Professional), a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and a LEEP GA.
